Know which sound you need

The microphone records your voice. Shared sound comes from the tab, app or screen you chose. For example, it may be sound from a video you are showing.

These are separate choices. Turning one on does not turn the other on. Sound-sharing options differ between browsers and computers.

Seeing a live picture does not prove that sound is working.

Make a short sound test

Use a few seconds of harmless material before an important take.

  1. Turn on Microphone if you want to record your voice.
  2. Allow microphone access when the browser asks.
  3. Turn on Include shared sound if you need sound from the source.
  4. Check any sound-sharing choice in the browser’s sharing box.
  5. Record a spoken sentence and some sound from the source.
  6. Finish the take.
  7. Play it back.
  8. Listen for both your voice and the shared sound.

If access was blocked

Bring the recorder tab to the front and try again. Allow the screen, camera or microphone access that you need. Check the site’s access settings in your browser if you blocked them earlier.

On a Mac, also check the browser’s access in system settings. If a device cannot be found, check its connection. If it cannot be opened, close other apps using it.

Save any work before restarting an app.

If one sound is missing

If your voice is missing, check the microphone and playback volume. If only shared sound is missing, check the source you chose. A browser tab may offer a sound option that a window does not.

Read any message saying the browser did not provide source sound. Make another short test after a change. Use the Mac app if you also need screen and camera together.
