Pick the smallest useful area

Your browser asks what you want to share with the recorder. Choose a tab for a web page or a window for one app. Choose a whole screen if the task moves between apps.

A smaller area helps keep other work out of the picture. The choices depend on your browser and computer. A phone may not offer the same screen options.

Check your choice

The browser makes the final choice, even if you set a preference in ScreenCandy.

  1. Open Recording settings if you want to set a source preference.
  2. Choose the real tab, window or screen in the browser’s sharing box.
  3. Check its name or small preview before allowing access.
  4. Look at the live preview in ScreenCandy.
  5. Use Change source if the picture is wrong.
  6. Press Start recording when you are ready.

If a window or screen is missing

Bring the app or page you want to record into view. Then open the browser’s sharing box again. If it is still missing, check your browser’s screen-recording support.

On a Mac, the browser may need screen-recording access in system settings. Access for the ScreenCandy Mac app is separate from access for Chrome. The setting’s name can differ between Mac versions.

Finish other work before restarting an app to apply a change.

Check a whole-screen take

Whole-screen recording can show messages, alerts and other windows. It may also show the floating recording controls. Move the controls away from the part you need to show.

Make a short test before a full explanation. If recording is not supported, try an up-to-date supported desktop browser, such as Chrome. Keep any saved files while you check the problem.
